Anna Hopkins (Fairuza in “Johnny Dangerously“) will be Angela in 2 episodes of FOR THE RECORD, a series of six, ten-minute episodes is about the “life playlist” of an interconnected cast of characters. Each episode focuses on the album or song that provides a soundtrack for a pivotal moment in the characters’ lives. In the first episode (titled “There’s Always Spotify“) Angela and Ray, who have recently broken up, reconnect to divide their prized record collection. One album, “Pet Sounds” by the Beach Boys, seems non-negotiable, forcing the couple to address the root cause of their breakup. Karen LeBlanc (Banyon Grey in “Attack the Rack“) appears in episodes three and four as Henrietta, mother of Sara (Moni Ogunsuyi). Chloe Rose (Constance in Killjoys episode 1.4) is Janice in Adam MacDonald‘s horror film PYEWACKET, about a frustrated teenage girl (Leah, played by Nicole Muñoz) who spends her free time dabbling in black magic and Satanism with her friends. (Janice is Leah’s best friend.) Abruptly moved to a cabin in the countryside by her alcoholic mom, Leah undertakes an occult ritual designed to kill her mother, but in the process awakens something even more sinister. The music for the film was written by Lee Malia (guitarist for the rock band BRING ME THE HORIZON). PYEWACKET premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 11 September. Elena Juatco (N’oa in The Harvest) is the voice of Laura Ing in the Deepa Mehta film BEEBA BOYS, which was released in Canada on 16 October. In the film, a gang leader takes on an established crime lord in a battle for control over Vancouver’s arms and drug trade. This month, Juatco will sing the role of Eponine from Les Miserables in four concert performances with the Upper Canada Chorus. Performances are November 6th 7th 13th and 14th at the Eglinton St. George’s United Church in Toronto, and Tickets are now available.
Kahlid Klein (‘well-dressed man’ in The Harvest and The Sugar Point Run) is Javier in JOHN LIVES AGAIN, an offbeat romantic comedy that follows a man in his late 20’s who is struggling to find love. Also in the cast is Jean Yoon, who was Officer Tong in LOST GIRL episode 1.4, and the coroner in Season One of ORPHAN BLACK.
Singer Alisha Phillips (Surrogate #5 in Vessel) plays an Executive Assistant in the film SUICIDE SQUAD, about a secret government agency that recruits imprisoned super-villains for black ops missions in exchange for clemency. The film will be released in the US on 1 August, and a trailer is available on You Tube. On right is Phillips latest song, HALF PAST LATE.
Jamillah Ross (Delle Seyah’s guard in Vessel) also sings, and her 2008 album, SUGA’S LAST STAND, is available on iTunes. Ross will be Rhonda in PAY THE GHOST, which stars Nicholas Cage as a man obsessed with finding his son, who disappeared during a Halloween carnival. PAY THE GHOST is directed by Uli Edel (whose 2014 film HOUDINI was nominated for a Primetime Emmy), and is available on iTunes and Amazon Video. The film’s music is by Joseph LoDuca, who also did the music
for XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS.
Season 2 of KILLJOYS will begin filming in Toronto on 2 December.
