Steven Strait (Jim Holden) will be Gene Simmons, one of the lead singers for KISS, in SPINNING GOLD, the story of Neil Bogart and the music of the artists who thrived on his Casablanca Records label in the 1970s. The film is written and directed by Neil Bogart’s son, Timothy Scott Bogart, who told Mike Fleming of Deadline: “My father was making $100 million a year at the height of Casablanca, but he quote-unquote ‘forgot’ to pay his taxes, and my inheritance amounted to three years at NYU, a Dodge Daytona and the rights to this story…When I ask people who were around my father what it was like, they inevitably say a variation of the same thing. That is, ‘I don’t know how I survived it or if I would do it again, but I had the greatest fucking time of my life.’” The film’s soundtrack will be released through Boardwalk Records. SPINNING GOLD was filmed in Montreal last summer. No release date has been announced. Continue reading →
