Aidan Gillen (Dr. Hynek) will star as Alex Leamas in THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, a TV adaptation of the award-winning 1965 novel by John LeCarre. In the book, Leamas, a British spy, is recalled to London and hopes to retire, but is sent out on one final mission to play the dishonoured spy and bring down an East German intelligence organizaation. THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD will premiere on BBC One on 31 December.
Gillen is also Peter in ROSE PLAYS JULIE, a story about a young woman seeking her biological mother. Rose, a young student who has enjoyed a loving relationship with her adoptive parents, gets the urge to travel from Dublin to London to confront her biological mother who has said she does not want to make contact. Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian wrote: “The drama begins by seeming to be hardly more than a poignant evocation of loneliness and regret. Then it escalates into an edge-of-the-seat suspense thriller of the sort that Chabrol might have admired, or even something written by Joe Eszterhas that you could have rented on VHS some time in the 80s. Yet even Eszterhas might have have flinched at the pure transgression of what is being implied.” ROSE PLAYS JULIE, had its premiere at the 2019 London Film Festival and will be released in the UK in early 2021.
