Doc (Rukiya Bernard) has made a new life for herself repairing the wounded after the attack on the Citadel. She meets Joline (Caroline Cave), a resistance fighter, and they are just about to get close when Callie (Macie Juiles), who was last seen in Episode 1.6, shows up and recognizes Doc. Callie was rescued by Axel of all people. Axel is still a vampire, but he is a very disciplined vampire and he definitely holds a grudge against the doctor.
Other things happen in the episode, but not that many. Atanasia is killed by a masked, sword-wielding assailant. Axel runs through the blood Doc steals for him more quickly than Doc expects. He will need to either feed, or be bitten by Vanessa very soon. (Doc and Axel don’t know where Vanessa is.) Mohammed keeps giving himself suicide missions to atone for previous sins, but he keeps surviving them. He is currently being protected by Flesh and Lucky. Continue reading →
A triathlon is a competition involving three endurance events. Most often, though not necessarily, these three events are swimming, cycling, and running, in immediate succession over various distances. 13 MILES is the first feature-length drama about triathletes.
Cora (Jovanna Huguet), the central character of 13 MILES, has spent much of her life managing her boyfriend’s career, and sees the triathlon as a means of reshaping her self-image. Her athletic inexperience is contrasted with that of Trevor (Robin Dunne), who has had a great career, sacrificing love and family to be the best, but must prove that he can still compete despite his age. Both Trevor and Cora must conquer the biggest race of their lives — the Iron-distance triathlon, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run. Producer Helena Thom told blogger Christine Blanchette: “We have received quite a bit of excitement in the triathlon community regarding this film as there has never been a full length triathlon movie created. But you don’t have to be a triathlete to enjoy this film, as this is also a story of self discovery and acceptance – something everyone can relate to.” 13 MILES is currently filming in various British Columbia locations, and should be released in late 2017. YouTube has a trailer.

Writer/director John Barnard‘s first feature film, MENORCA is about Claire, a mother who, halfway through her son’s soccer game, decides that she needs to leave. She steals a van and heads into rural Manitoba where she picks up a hitchhiker. Eventually she heads to the Spanish island of Menorca (some 250 kilometers SE of Barcelona). There she will come to terms with her mid-life crisis. Gillis described her character to blogger Big Phil: “At the beginning of the movie,” she said, “Claire is in a very dark place in her life. She is very unhappy. Her marriage is empty, her husband has stripped every responsibility from her, she is completely lost, she has no job, no real identity. I feel like if she didn’t take this journey, she might take her own life.” MENORCA will premiere with two screenings at the Whistler Film Festival (Saturday, 3 December at 5:30pm, and Sunday, 4 December at 3:30pm) before having a wider Canadian theatrical release.
