LOST GIRL – Season 5 Episode 14 – SPOILERS
TOMASINA: “I’m gonna die in the woods with a girl wearing gingham.”
One suspects that the purpose of Bo’s extended dream sequence in this episode might be to acknowledge story lines that cannot be given a detailed exploration in the show’s final episodes.
Bo is comatose, having been bitten by a vampire moth, and she dreams she is wearing pigtails and a dress somewhat like the one she wore to the Cherry Festival in There’s Bo Place Like Home, only it has a wider belt and a big ruffle in the back. The general theme of Bo’s dream is THE WIZARD OF OZ. (Coincidentally, Pixel 51’s post about ‘There’s Bo Place Like Home’ had Oz in its title.) At some level, Bo hears what people at her bedside are saying, and incorporates it into her dream. For instance, Tamsin says: “I could really use a drink” and
Bo sees herself pounding on a soft drink vending machine before encountering Thomasina, a black and white
version of Tamsin with glasses and a license to sell real estate.
Thomasina corresponds to the Tin Man. She is heartless, because someone has broken hers. Dyson turns up as the Cowardly Lion, and eventually Bo translates Lauren’s perpetual insecurity into Stoner Lola (the scarecrow).
It seems possible that, at some level, Bo is thinking that if she could just get Lauren really stoned it might help overcome the doctor’s tendency to overthink everything (much in the way Cosima dealt with a similar problem with Delphine on ORPHAN BLACK).
Vex is The Maestro (The Wizard) and in Bo’s dream he has two faces, a bit like The Smilers in Dr. Who episode 5.2, The Beast Below. But Vex is an illusion of sorts, and when the mirror shatters, Bo finds herself at The Dal and meets the real wizard — herself.

at Bo’s bedside
The gang searches the shack for the moth responsible for Bo’s condition, and they find it, right after they find Kenzi climbing in through an attic window. (Other entrances have been secured against the threat from Hades.) Almost immediately, the moth lands on Kenzi’s back and is subdued by Tamsin with a tennis racket.
BORING MOTH DATA: Actual blood-sucking moths (Calyptra thalictri – wingspan 4.4 centimeters) are much smaller than the Comet moth (Argema mittrei – wingspan 20 centimeters) after which LOST GIRL modeled the Shtriga moth in the episode. In Albanian folklore, the Shtriga is a vampiric witch that sucks the blood of infants and turns them into insects.
Paul Amos as Vex. In Bo’s dream he is a two-faced Maestro
The long and the short of it is that Bo needs to have the blood the moth took returned to her. Lauren puts it into a needle and squirts it into Bo’s mouth. In Bo’s dream, this translates into Kenzi the Shtriga (moth woman) performing an elegant dance, and then spitting a dark, viscous concentration of blood into Bo’s mouth, and then kissing her passionately, presumably while continuing the fluid transfer.
That description really doesn’t do the scene justice. Ksenia Solo hasn’t had much screen time in Season 5, but the dancing mothwoman is one of Solo’s best and most beautiful LOST GIRL moments.
Trick’s will is read, and Vex, Tamsin, and Kenzi inherit objects of power, which are probably meant to help in the battle against Hades. Lauren gets a book on the occult. Dyson and Mark inherit the Dal.
Vex is not dead at the end of the episode, so there is still hope that he and Mark will get together.
Jenny Raven with Stephano Gallo and Robert Knepper, stars of the crime thriller Cold Deck.
Luke Bilyk (Mark) will be Luke in THE WONDERFUL WAYNEYS, a series about a family of geniuses with one child (Emmett, played by Simon Cadel) who has difficulty maintaining a C average. Mr. and Mrs. Wayney will be played by Jason Priestly and Molly Ringwald. The show, which is currently shooting in the Toronto area, will air on DHX Television in Canada sometime this spring,
Jenny Raven (Libra in O Kappa My Kappa) will be Erin Roberts’ assistant in the TV series THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE, due to premiere on STARZ in early 2016. The series is based on the 2009 film of the same name by Stephen Soderbergh, but Riley Keough, who will play Christine, the series’ central character, told Vanity Fair: “When I read the script, I realized this isn’t the same story [as the film] at all…It’s completely different.” The first teaser promo for THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE is available on You Tube.
Raven is also Nadine in the crime thriller COLD DECK which is about a down and out poker player who engineers a major heist. There is a trailer on Vimeo. The worldwide rights for the film have been picked up by Screen Media Ventures, and it should be released in the US before Spring 2016.
