UPDATE – 16/4/2015 – The film THE COVE starring Rachel Skarsten has been retitied THE RED DRESS. There is a trailer.
LOST GIRL – Season 5 Episode 1 – SPOILERS
Tamsin’s axe crashes through
Kenzi’s hotel room door.
LAUREN: You need to tell me everything you know about the underrealm.
TAMSIN: Eat a sack of tits.
Season five opens with Bo (Anna Silk) climbing a crag, singing “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain”. Reaching the top, she stands and admires the view, then plucks the missing hell shoe from a large bird’s nest. She begins to descend, slips, and falls quite some distance.
The Three Rednecks, played by Tyler McMaster, Trent Pardy, and Zach Apostoleris, find Bo apparently unconscious after her fall.
“She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain” has its roots in an old gospel song about The Rapture. The ‘she’ in the title refers to the vehicle returning the saviour to earth to pass judgement on the living and the dead. It might mean that Bo is the vehicle destined to bring salvation to the Fae.
Freyja (Michelle Nolden) sends an uninvited guest (Rachel Blair) to some unspecified place by opening a portal behind her
After her fall, Bo is found, apparently unconscious, by three unwise men referenced in the credits as ‘rednecks’. Bo drains their chi to heal herself, but leaves them alive. (We know this because she stomps on the crotch of one of them to discourage further pursuit.)
Back home, trying to get Tamsin to help rescue Kenzi, Bo asks: “What happened when you delivered Kenzi’s soul? Whether it’s hellfires, evil dragons, sexy dragons. I don’t care. I can handle it.” The only sexy dragon Bo could be thinking of is Leviathan (Jennifer Dale), who lost a riddling contest to Bo in episode 4.9. Leviathan is often depicted as a serpent, and a dragon isn’t far from that. Could that line foreshadow another appearance by Levi?
The Helskór are invisible on Bo’s feet.
Tamsin is uncooperative, but tells Bo that she has given the other hellshoe to Trick. After going to the Dal and getting the second Helskór, Bo visits Lauren at the clinic. (Lauren runs the Marquise Technical Clinic, and from this we might infer that she is still with The Dark, and that Evony (Emmanuelle Vaugier) is probably still The Morrigan.
When Bo puts on the hellshoes, they become invisible on her feet and she vanishes.
Bo takes Tamsin by the neck
to bring her under control
Upset by this turn of events, Lauren goes to visit Tamsin, who tells her to “eat a sack of tits”. This is not the first use of the word ‘tit’ on LOST GIRL. In La Fae Epoque, Cassie (Vanessa Matsui) told Lauren “Trick can suck my left tit” when she refused to aid any further in Bo’s exploration of Dyson’s unconscious mind. We later learn from Trick that Valkyries are blood-bound not to reveal anything about the afterlife. If they do that, they die.
Freyja (Michelle Nolden) initially mistakes
Bo for the florist.
Bo enters Valhalla, and in that place it is always High Noon (either that or the clock in the Royal York Hotel lobby is broken). She meets Freyja (Michelle Nolden) who is quickly revealed to be quite dangerous when she dispatches an uninvited guest (Rachel Blair) to a place of implied undesirability through a portal of some sort. Bo avoids further official contact and instead seduces a maid and appropriates her uniform.
Freyja has an assistant named Stacey (Kate Corbett), a bully who apparently has known Tamsin (and been her nemesis) for a long time.
Freyja’s assistant Stacey (Kate Corbett) reluctantly prepares to take a call
Kenzi, when Bo finds her, is not at all in distress. Freyja is arranging Kenzi’s wedding (to Hale), but Bo’s arrival throws a wrench into the works, and makes Freyja send Hale back (to where we are not told) and cancel the nuptials. The goddess is ready to feed Kenzi to the evil dude that keeps phoning the hotel when Bo intervenes and takes Kenzi’s place. Freyja, after promising to return Kenzi to her body) opens a portal and Bo finds herself in the hotel elevator (lined with 1617 buttons according to the Showcase commentary) on her way to meet someone who may be her father, or The Wanderer, or The Pyrippus, or all three.
Kenzi is returned to her body, which is in her coffin. Fortunately, she is still wearing the wedding dress (?) and has the matches (something new) and the knife (something borrowed) that Bo (who would have been her Maid of Honour) gave her. That’s more than Buffy Summers had when she clawed herself out of the grave after her resurrection.
OBSERVATION: Lauren uses Bo’s last name (Dennis) when expressing confidence in her ability to control the effects of the Helskór. Later in the episode, Bo uses Kenzi’s last name, saying: “I claim Kenzi Malikov.” Neither character has been called by her last name very often.
As Lauren reads the Norse invocation to reveal the gates of Valhalla, “True Love” is written on the wall behind her. Thanks to @the_atomic_mess for noticing this
Michelle Nolden (Freyja) stars as CIA Agent Carmen Reese. and Damon Runyon (Roman the Bacchus in Faes Wide Shut) is Agent Fisher in PRISONER X, a film by Gaurav Seth about a time traveller who, in his attempt to change history, falls into the hands of the CIA. The film’s Indiegogo page is offering LOST GIRL set props (they aren’t saying which) as incentives for donation. PRISONER X should be released sometime next year.
Rachel Skarsten (Tamsin) will be Patricia in THE COVE, which was filmed earlier this year in Malta and is now in post-production. THE COVE was written by CONTINUUM story editor Raul Inglis and Mario Azzopardi, who is the father of Lara Azzopardi who co-authored LOST GIRL episode 5.12.
Stephannie Hawkins, The blurry shot on the left is from her DARKNET 5 appearance.
Stephannie Hawkins (Skarsten’s LG stunt double for Season 5) will be Shelly and Kyle Schmid (Rainer) will be Aster in the film ’88’ in which a young woman (Katherine Isabelle) finds herself in a roadside diner, with no knowledge of how she got there. She embarks on a quest to find the person responsible for her lover’s death. Hawkins also did stunt work on the final Seaspon 2 episode of ORPHAN BLACK.
Kate Corbett (Stacey) will be Tracey in DENNIS, a 15 minute short film about unsolved Newfoundland murder mysteries, which will star Katie Boland (the Seniatta in LG 2.6).
Ksenia Solo (Kenzi) was interviewed by Chris Jancelewicz for THE HUFFINGTON POST in an article titled: Ksenia Solo On Leaving ‘Lost Girl,’ Her Fans, And What She’s Going To Do Next.
