Vanessa Matsui (Cassie the Oracle) will be Ms. Kate Wilder in GRAND ARMY, a TV series that follows sixteen year old Joey Del Marco (Odessa Adlon), and her attempts to cope after being sexually assaulted by three life-long friends during a Friday night out. The screenplay is by Katie Cappiello (based on “Slut: The Play“, which she wrote in 2013) and the first episode is titled “Brooklyn 2020”. Sydney Meyer, who was Helen Blackthorne in four episodes of SHADOWHUNTERS, is also in the cast. Directed by So Yong Kim, Tina Mabry, and Darnell Martin (2 episodes each), GRAND ARMY is currently in production at Netflix Studios in Mississauga, Ontario, and should be released early next year.
Vanessa Matsui (Cassie the Oracle) will be a witch named Dot (Madame Dorothea from The Mortal Instruments books) in the first two episodes of SHADOWHUNTERS on ABC Family. The series will premiere on 12 January at 9pm. And Matsui will star as a ghost trying to escape purgatory in the webseries GHOST BFF which is scheduled to go into production sometime this month. Recently, Matsui wrote on Instagram that she and producer Katie Nolan had delivered 22 Ghost BFF scripts and a “piles of research” to Telus (which is funding the project).
Matsui’s uncle, award winning journalist John Matsui, has published his second novel, GRAVITY GAMES, a science fiction mystery which is now available in a Kindle Edition. Mr. Matsui’s detective, Nathan Sherlock, is a food and wine expert who was born with an amazing sense of smell. In GRAVITY GAMES, Sherlock and his sidekick Bonnie Nakagowa are enlisted by CSIS to track down a kidnapped scientist who has designed an anti-gravity weapon.
Mother-daughter production team Gail Harvey (director of five LOST GIRL episodes) and Katie Boland (The Morrigan’s assistant) are currently developing two programs for the CBC. One is a 30 minute comedic drama called GOLD LAMÉ, created and written by Boland and Katie Ford, which centers around a young woman who was plucked from obscurity and hired to work for the entrepreneurial genius behind a multi-billion dollar clothing empire. The other is the drama CENTERPUNCH that follows the story of a woman who comes from a family of police officers. After joining the Toronto police force herself, she discovers surprising things about her family and the inner workings of the constabulary. CENTREPUNCH was co-created by Katie Boland and Calum DeHartog.

Boland also stars as Sonia Greene in the horror/romance short THE CRAFT, a fan fiction biopic set in 19th century Boston, and based on the stories and romantic history of H.P.Lovecraft and his wife. THE CRAFT premiered in Toronto last May, and was filmed at Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto.
Rick Howland (Fitzpatrick McCorrigan) will star in a new horror/thriller called WALKERWOOD, about two bank robbers who escape custody on their way to prison and end up in a California town that seems to be populated only by beautiful young women and very old men. The project is raising funds through an Indiegogo Page.
