Aleks Paunovic (Julius) will be Detective Osgard in HARD POWDER, an English-language adaptation of the 2014 Norwegian black comedy “In Order of Disappearance” (aka Kraftidioten). In the US version, Nels (Liam Neeson), a Colorado snowplow operator, takes the law into his own hands after his son is murdered by a drug cartel. Nels sets out to find those responsible and inadvertently ignites a gang war. Directed by Hans Petter Moland, and filmed in British Columbia and Alberta, HARD POWDER will be released in Australia and New Zealand on 14 February. Kraftidioten can be streamed on Netflix.
Paunovic is also Bojan Boscovic, “a large, fearsome looking man with frostbite scars and stumped ears”, in the TV version of the 2013 movie SNOWPIERCER, which was set in a future where a failed climate-change experiment has killed everyone on the planet except for a fortunate few who managed to board a train that continually circles the globe, powered by a perpetual motion engine. In the TV series, Bojan is a Breachworker, performing one of the most dangerous jobs on the train. He’s used to the cold and hazards of the job, and comfortable enough to joke about the risk. The show will star Jennifer Connolly and Daveed Diggs. Graeme Manson (co-creator of ORPHAN BLACK) has replaced Josh Friedmann as showrunner. The pilot will be reshot (the new version just had its first readthrough), and will now be directed by James Hawes. The ten-episode series will air on TNT sometime next year. Outside the US, SNOWPIERCER will be available on Netflix. Continue reading →
Chris Mueller (Chad Rook) manages to send a text to his buddies from Nurse Stevenson’s phone. Xander (Ian Verdun) and Calvin (Curtis Lum) find Stevenson’s address and follow her to the naval facility where Chris is being held. The nurse seems to drive around pointlessly for a bit, possibly in an attempt to shake her pursuers. (According to Google Maps, it should be only a 12 minute drive from her home address to the naval base.) Xander and Decker try to approach the entrance, but are chased away by guards (who probably get the license number of their vehicle). Stevenson (Veronika Hadrava) has Xander’s phone number because of Mueller’s text. Meanwhile, the navy has identified Ben Pownall as the guy who took their mermaid lure.
Jennifer Koenig as Vicki, who caught Ryn stealing clothes from her line in the Episode Two. She was also the Queen of Hearts in Episode 1.17 of ONCE UPON A TIME
Injections of DNA from Ryn’s sister cure paralysis in mice. The researchers must have had some reason to expect that mermaid DNA might repair the nervous system of rodents (and possibly humans). Could there have been earlier experiments that led them to that conclusion? Have there been other captured mermaids? Will the navy offer Ben a cure for his mother’s paralysis in exchange for the return of the lure?
Why exactly is the navy keeping Chris prisoner? They must know that doing that will attract unwanted attention. Had they sent Chris to another hospital, one not at all connected with the captured mermaid, and notified his family, no one would be trying to track him down, and Ben would not have found the lure. Even if Chris had seen what attacked him, why would anyone believe him? Is it possible that the bite of a mermaid causes changes in human physiology? Continue reading →
Scarlett and Axel begin a relationship by sleeping together on a pile of (now worthless) money in the back of an armoured truck. That the relationship might develop into something serious is suggested by the Dick Flood song playing in the background as they cuddle the following night after vanquishing The Sisterhood. The song says: “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray our love will always keep”Scarax is not a bad ship name, but Axlett is better.
Before they have sex, Axel and Scarlett discuss each other’s past. Axel (like Fox Mulder) had a sister, but she disappeared one day after he left her alone briefly at the playground. (He was 13 at the time.) The loss of his sister, for which he blames himself, explains Axel’s dedication to protecting Vanessa. Axel assures Scarlett that his relationship with Vanessa is platonic.
