LOST GIRL – Season 4 Episode 12 – SPOILERS
Lauren, with ulterior motive, waits for Evony
LAUREN: You claim me.
EVONY: Honey, I don’t have to claim your clam to claim you. Why don’t you
tell me what this is really about?
LAUREN: Truth? I have no where else to go. Look I’m not asking you to be
my girlfriend. But I might want some of the benefits.
EVONY: I have never understood you humans, but you are fun to play with.
Bo and Rainer. Rainer does not know what the ‘Wanderer’ tarot card means, indicating that he was not the one who sent it.
After great sex, Evony (Emmanuelle Vaugier) tastes salt, and Lauren tells her she is sweating. This is something Evony has never experienced. Lauren informs her that she has been transformed; that she is now entirely human. (Turns out that the transformative serum was administered via Lauren’s vagina during oral sex.) That this transformation is possible would tend to confirm what was said in a previous post about Fae being humans with certain normally dormant genes activated.
Later in the episode, Evony tells her son Massimo (Tim Rozon) that she might be getting her period for the first time. This confirms something I have long suspected. The Fae do not require artificial birth control because for them, ovulation is voluntary. This would also explain the Fae’s relatively low population. Considering that they live much longer than humans, voluntary ovulation is almost a necessary evolutionary development.
Would love to know who this
mystery cellist in the Temple of the
Women of the Horse might be.
Massimo is Evony’s son, necessariily by a human father (since he has no Fae powers). Why would she voluntarily become pregnant by a human? Why would Aife voluntarily become pregnant by The Pyrippus? Imprisoned for centuries, Aife must have allowed Bo’s father (apparently a very powerful horse-Fae named Pyrippus) to impregnate her in exchange for her freedom. The Pyrippus, who sent Tamsin out chasing a Bo-like succubus some centuries previously, must have given up on locating such a being and decided to sire one himnself. Bo was born around 1980, long after Tamsin was sent on her quest.
Evony and Massimo kiss.
ABOUT PYRIPPUS: The name Pyrippus probably breaks down into pyro and hippus (an etymology similar to that of eohippus) and means fire horse. I see no similarities to Odin’s eight-legged horse Sleipnir, although there are accounts of Odin riding Sleipnir to Hel. Women born in the year of the Fire Horse are, in Chinese culture, considered undesirable, and are often persecuted. (The excellent 2005 film EVE AND THE FIRE HORSE deals nicely with this topic, but it does not seem to be widely available.)
Lauren reads from a tome in the Dark Archives that describes Rainer as having fangs and horns. Perhaps the author is being figurative?
Lauren’s use of The Morrigan as a live test subject without her knowledge sounds bad, but go back to episode 4.6 to hear Lauren and Evony discuss this very subject. At that time, Evony advocated such experimentation over Lauren’s objections.
Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) wants revenge for Hale’s death, but expediency prevents anyone from killing Massimo for her. Vex (Paul Amos), who turns out to be Massimo’s foster dad, lets slip an interesting bit of information as he plans an escape for himself and his ‘son’. “I made a call to a friend in Warwickshire,” he says. “Bill. Famous Playwright. Nice guy. We’re going to stay with him until things blow over.” Shakespeare (it is implied) is Fae, and still alive. This is confirmed when Massimo is cautioned not to mention Hamlet, because ‘Bill’ is displeased with the ending.
Other things that happen in this episode:
Rosette (Casey Hudecki) goes up in flames.
Massimo eats the Origin Seed, much to Lauren’s horror, giving him all the Una Mens‘s powers.
Rosette (Casey Hudecki) is a mad knight who contrives to make Bo and Rainer form an alliance with the aim of freeing The Pyrippus from his prison. She is incinerated for her trouble.
At Kenzi’s insistence, Bo unclaims her. With Lauren now claimed by Evony, this leaves Bo free of official human entanglements.
Vanessa Matsui on vacation in Hawaii. Her series SEED will premiere
on The CW on 14 July.
Vanessa Matsui (Cassie the Oracle) is Irene on SEED, a series which is in its second season on CITY-TV in Canada. Season One will premiere on the CW in the US on Monday 14 July at 9:30 Eastern. Allison Dawn Doiron (Amanda the Kitsune) appears as Linda in the premiere episode (and two others).
Helen Croone aka Gossling. Her music accompanied the seduction of Evony.
The music playing during Lauren’s seduction of Evony is Heart Killer a track from the album INTERNATIONAL LIVING by Gossling. The song playing while Bo and Rainer sneak into the temple of the Women of the Horse is SAD RELATIONSHIP by Lars Kurz and Andreas Suttner.
Eve Harlow (Sister Epona) was the young Helena in the premiere episode of FARGO on FX. Shawn Doyle (Dr. Isaac Taft) was Vern Thurman in the same episode. FARGO is filmed in Calgary, Alberta.
Ksenia Solo, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Rick Howland, and Zoie Palmer will all be guests at DRAGONCON 2014 in Atlanta (29 August/1 September).
