Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday) will be Isaac in the upcoming SyFy series VAGRANT QUEEN, that will star Adriyan Rae as Elida, a child queen driven from her throne at the age of ten and forced to wander the galaxy, pursued by revolutionaries who want her dead. The series is based on the graphic novel by Magdalene Visaggio. In the book, Elida’s family held power because centuries ago they invented a brainwashing device that was used to convince the people that they were gods. Isaac is an old friend of Elida’s and he persuades her that she must return to the heart of her former kingdom and rescue her mother, who (Isaac tells her) is imprisoned in a monastery.
VAGRANT QUEEN will be written and directed entirely by women. The first two writers on board are Mika Collins and Mariko Tamaki. Showrunner Gem Garrard and Danishka Esterhazy are the first two named directors. Production will begin in July in Cape Town, South Africa, and the ten-episode series will premiere on SyFy sometime in 2020.
And Rozon will co-star as Travis in the Hallmark movie CHRISTMAS TOWN, (based on the 2016 novel by Donna VanLiere). An unhappy young woman (Lauren Gabriel, played by Candace Cameron Bure), goes for a drive after work several days before Christmas and soon finds herself in the small town of Grandon. (After a car accident near there, Travis gives Lauren a ride into town.) She soon becomes involved with the annual fundraiser for Glory’s Place, a center for single mothers and families who need help. CHRISTMAS TOWN, which will be the eighth Hallmark Channel Christmas movie for Candace Bure, recently completed filming in Vancouver. No air date has yet been announced. Continue reading →
Not all of Hopkins’ characters this year were villains. She was reporter Monica Stuart in five episodes of THE EXPANSE (above). And she was one of the most memorable characters of KILLJOYS‘ fourth season, the Scarback-turned-dominatrix Fairuza.
“I’ve never really played a villain before, so I kind of got to channel everything I’ve ever wanted to do and haven’t been able to do. Yeah, I think when you’re playing something that’s so different from you, you have a lot more room to play. In fact, I find it’s kind of easier to do than just playing a regular gal.”
—- Anna Hopkins (to Hidden Remote — May 2018)
2018 was a big year for Anna Hopkins. She appeared in ten episodes of SHADOWHUNTERS as Lilith, Adam’s first wife. Lilith is complex and fascinating, and the best dressed demon on television. The role got Hopkins a Teen Choice Awards nomination in the category of Choice TV Villain.
In Season Two of the CITY-TV drama BAD BLOOD, Hopkins is Teresa Langana, an entirely different sort of villain whose father is head of the ‘Ndrangheta in Calabria. She is sent, along with her twin brother Christian, to Hamilton. Ontario to make the drug trade there more profitable. Teresa is an utterly ruthless corporate mobster whose only loyalties are to her brother and the bottom line. Hopkins described Teresa to A.R. Wilson of TV-eh as “…one of those characters who is really powerful but doesn’t really need to exert or show that power very often…but when things don’t go her way, I think the extremes she can go to are a little further than most of us.” The first season of BAD BLOOD is on Netflix worldwide. Season Two can be streamed on the CITY-TV website. Continue reading →
Kevin (Anna Silk) walks out of the abandoned uranium mine where Bulshar was once entombed, . Kevin describes herself “a representative of a long line of Ambassadors tasked with looking after the balance in the world” She calls her bosses “The Menfolk”, and seems quite resentful of them. And she tells Wynonna and Charlie that Bulshar’s arm is still in the mine and it can be used to make a weapon that will kill the demon. (It turns out that Kevin is lying, and the quest for Bulshar’s arm is a device to find out if Waverly can control the power of her father’s ring.) Continue reading →
