WYNONNA EARP – Season 2 Episode 11 – SPOILERS
WAVERLY: “So you think this world is under a spell? What, like Narnia, or Mar-a-Lago?”
Wynonna Earp disappeared at the end of the previous episode, the result of a spell cast by the Iron Witch (Rachel Ancheril). In this episode, the witch tells Waverly that what was cast is a “cheap glamour spell”. (A glamour spell is a sort of mass hypnosis that causes people to react to things in a specific way. There is no physical alteration of appearances.) If what the witch says is true, people in Purgatory who are under the influence of the spell are seeing the same things they usually see; they’re just interpreting what they see differently. Doc and Dolls never actually got shot, and that barn never exploded.
Bobo, the Widows, and Sheriff Clootie (those touched by the demonic, as the Iron Witch puts it) were unaffected by the spell, so the things they do actually happen. (Demons and revenants don’t accomplish much in this episode beyond breaking the third seal and waking up the long-entombed Clootie.) Continue reading →
KILLJOYS – Season 3 Episode 10 – SPOILERS
This hand-binding is part of the opening scene. Are Pree and Gared married now?
Dutch introduces the season finale poetically. “The universe has a memory,” she says. “That’s all time really is. Our whole life to hold in moments, the sweet and sour, the kisses and the scars, our beginnings and goodbyes, all written down in time. Recorded, so the universe will know we were here, so we won’t be forgotten. We are all made of memories.”
D’Avin buys Johnny a piece of land on Leith, 200 acres of RAC-owned ranch land with a little creek out back, complete with robot goats. (Johnny asks if there are goats, and D’Avin replies, “Johnny, they’re robot goats.”) The implication of that exchange is that real goats exist on Leith, although we have seen none of them. It does raise a question though. Exactly what would the purpose of a robot goat be? It will be interesting to find out what farming options are available for John. No livestock has ever been seen on the show, and the only visible crop has been hokk. Eating habits in The Quad are a mystery because we almost never see anybody eat anything on screen. There are peach trees on Leith (at least according to Sabine), but Johnny’s newly-acquired land did not seem to contain an orchard. Continue reading →
KILLJOYS – Season 3 Episode 9 – SPOILERS
Sara Waisglass as Quin, seen here bringing Alvis his Reckoning Day knives
The day before battle is Reckoning Day, a Scarback holy day commemorating the thirteen monks who (centuries previously) went to Arkyn to try to kill the ‘devil’. On this particular Reckoning Day, a very pregnant Kendry (Mayko Nguyen) arrives at RAC HQ alone, and declares herself as “the emissary of Commander Aneela Kin Rit”. We never do find out her real reasons for being there (she gives some implausible reasons) but we find out that the child she is carrying is part D’Avin and part Aneela. Zeph says that the pregnancy appears to be five or six months along, and Kendry corrects her, saying it’s been about three weeks. Johnny fears that if the Hullen can reproduce by normal means, they won’t need humans for anything anymore, but when Aneela made the discovery (in Episode 3.7) that led to the pregnancy, she said “I’ve found a way to save us all.” That seemed to indicate that the results of her research would have beneficial consequences for everyone.
