Kether Donohue as reporter Donna Thompson in THE BAY.
Donohue at the premiere of THE BAY – Toronto International Film Festival 2012
Kether Donhohue turns up in interesting films. Pixel 51 first encountered her when she had a small (but significant) part in RINGER Episode 11. Her last film was ALTERED STATES OF PLAINE, and she was Alice in PITCH PERFECT. Now Donohue stars as investigative reporter Donna Thompson in THE BAY, a horror film set in the fictitious town of Claridge, Maryland. (There is a Claridge in Pennsylvania, but not in Maryland.) The story is described this way on the film’s website:
Two million fish washed ashore. One thousand blackbirds dropped from the sky. On July 4, 2009, a deadly menace swept through the quaint seaside town of Claridge, Maryland, but the harrowing story of what happened that Independence Day has never been told…until now.
Kristen Connolly as Dana in CABIN IN THE WOODS
It co-stars (among others) Kristen Connolly (Dana in THE CABIN IN THE WOODS) and is directed by Barry Levinson, who also directed such films as Bugsy, Rain Man, and Good Morning Vietnam.
THE BAY will be in theatres 2 November. More on this after I see it.
Malcolm Ward (Mike Colter) was Bridget's only real relationship.
Bridget Kelly, the twin who was the show’s main focus, was a bit hard to believe. How likely is it that she would fall madly in love with Andrew while pretending to be his wife? Could she really fit into Siobhan’s lifestyle so comfortably, making so few social faux pas? Why didn’t she run off with Malcolm (Mike Colter), or at least have a continuing physical relationship with him? More to the point, why didn’t she use Andrew’s money to hire someone to kill Bodaway Macawi? I mean, Macawi is a small time Wyoming hood, and Siobhan has access to New York mobster types.
Gellar and daughter Charlotte. Ringer's midseason hiatus was so long that Gellar got pregnant. Was it accidental?
They killed off the wrong Butler. Gemma (Tara Summers) was a sympathetic character. Her relationship with Siobhan, and the fake Siobhan, was real and very interesting. The writers, for some inexplicable reason, had her go mad upon learning of her husband’s affair with her best friend. Then Siobhan (the real one) had her kidnapped. She was killed just before THE HIATUS THAT ATE THE AUDIENCE. Had Henry walked in on the kidnapping, and been fatally shot successfully rescuing Gemma, the show would have gone a lot better.
Episode 10 aired on 29 November. Two major holidays and 61 days later we got to see Episode 11. Who would give the audience of such a complex show that much time to forget what was going on?
Gellar’s pregnancy. Rumours of that began in the aforementioned hiatus. Were there to be a Season 2, Gellar would have been very pregnant during shooting. I suppose it’s possible that Bridget might discover that she is pregnant, but doesn’t that make Andrew a bit too potent? He apparently was also the father of Siobhan’s twins.
Let’s not forget that RINGER aired immediately after HART OF DIXIE. I have to say that if one likes the Rachel Bilson vehicle, one might not be inclined to like RINGER. Just because Bilson was a potential slayer (Colleen) doesn’t make the two shows compatible.
Andrea Roth built up to brilliant as madwoman Catherine, but by that time, no one was watching.
Andrea Roth (Catherine Martin in RINGER) will be playing Rachel Matheson in the NBC pilot REVOLUTION, a post-apocalyptic fantasy series the premise of which is that all technology suddenly stops working. If that sounds familiar, you have probably read Stephen Michael Stirling‘s EMBERVERSE series. Mr. Stirling is not given a writing credit on the show’s IMDB page, but J.J. Abrams’ concept sounds amazingly similar to that of Emberverse.
Considering that, even if RINGER is renewed for a second season, Roth’s character will almost certainly be subject to some form of incarceration, REVOLUTION may be the only way, outside of RESCUE ME reruns on FX, that we will get to see her on TV. I do entertain the slim hope that Siobhan will break her out of whatever facility contains her, keep her hidden somewhere as a secret lover, and help her plot revenge on Olivia Charles (Jaime Murray), but that’s probably not going to happen.
Not that much is known about REVOLUTION beyond the basic concept. Giancarlo Esposito (ONCE UPON A TIME) will play someone named Captain Neville. The rest of the cast is unfamiliar to me. You can bet there will be lots of action sequences. No fewer than twenty stunt people are credited as being involved in the pilot. Jessica Harbeck will be stunt double for Andrea Roth.
For some reason, Andrea Roth has absolutely no web presence. She is not on Facebook or Twitter. Nor, so far as I can tell, is she on any of the more esoteric social media sites. I wonder why?
