Recently I commented that Amber Tamblyn‘s character on House might save the series. In this week’s episode she literally saves House with deductive reasoning and applied psychology. Martha M. Masters makes the rest of House’s team fade into mere sidekick status. And she points out to the viewer that Cuddy is simply irrelevant. I almost quit watching this show. Now I am quite interested in it again.
Just as Sherlock Holmes was based on a real person (one of Conan Doyle’s instructors), Martha M. Masters has a basis in reality. Tamblyn says the character is based on one of her friends, Martha Meredith Masters, who has signed a legal document promising not to sue the network for anything related to the use of the character.
