LOOK CLOSELY AT MARLING’S NEW VIDEO
In Laura Marling’s new stop action animated video of "The Needle & the Damage Done", the cover of the 1980 Betty Harris album IN THE SADDLE is plainly visible. Harris is a somewhat obscure New Orleans soul jazz singer and that album is a compilation of her work with songwriter and composer Allen Toussaint. She recorded such songs as “12 Red Roses”, and “I’m Evil Tonight”. It’s a really nice touch for the video.
The only Betty Harris currently available is on two CD’s. One is called SOUL PERFECTION PLUS, on the West Side label from the UK. It is a bit hard to find. A few copies are available on Amazon. There is another called BETTY HARRIS THE LOST SOUL QUEEN, from the LOUISIANA MUSIC FACTORY. The first has 28 cuts and is going for around $50. The second has 21 cuts and is priced at $15.99.
