LOST GIRL – Season 2 Episode 19 – SPOILERS
Lee Rose has now directed both of my favourite LOST GIRL episodes. The first was MASKS (Season 2 Episode 12). The second one, Truth and Consequences, aired yesterday (25 August).
Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) references Don Corleone (in the context of her cousin, who believes the Godfather character to be a real person), and later in the episode chooses Bo over her relationship with Nate. Standing with Bo against the Garuda is, for Kenzi, a matter of honour.
This episode belongs to Ksenia Solo. It is her strongest performance in the series thus far.
Meanwhile, Nadia goes all Norman Bates on Lauren (Zoie Palmer), flailing at her with a butcher knife in the shower. She comes to her senses temporarily and does not even wound Lauren. Instead, Nadia runs off to confront Bo, finds Kenzi instead, and knocks her around a bit.
Bo returns home, and seeing that Kenzi is somewhat battered, heads off to confront Nadia about it. Once Bo gets there, Nadia, who is possessed by the Garuda (I think) vacillates between trying to kill Lauren and pleading to be killed to prevent her from harming her lover. Bo resists this plea a little, then stabs Nadia.
Bo must be having mixed feelings about all this. She’s getting pretty much everything she wants. Kenzi is staying with her, and Lauren is single again. But this outcome has caused much pain for both Lauren and Kenzi.
It is unfortunate that we will see no more of Athena Karkanis on LOST GIRL. We can perhaps look forward to seeing her as Dani Kahlil in the projected AMC series LOW WINTER SUN, which is a remake of the British series of the same name, and will star Mark Strong, who also starred in the British version. AMC has ordered the pilot for that.
Lee Rose has directed a third LOST GIRL episode. Ceremony (Season 3 Episode 9) will air sometime next year.
