The main reason, that I am interested in FOXFUR, the new film by Damon Packard, is Kristine Caluya, who plays the landlord. Caluya’s most recent film appearance was as a bikini waxer in the horror flick DETENTION (2011). Next year she will be Sunlyn in the much more interesting DIRTY MOVIE (which near as I can tell will not be a dirty movie). In 2001 was Michelle Ang‘s body double in the finale of XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS.
Why Caluya is listed in XWP as a “body double” and not a stunt woman, I do not know. Body doubles are usually used for nude scenes. I have watched “A Friend In Need” and Michelle Ang is not required to be substantially nude anywhere in the episode. I think Caluya substitutes for Ang when Akemi is set on fire and then trapped under the ice by Yodoshi, but doesn’t that make her a stunt woman? (Caluya was not credited in either part of the episode, and is not listed as one of the stunt persons.)
Here’s how Packard describes the new film:
“Foxfur is about a disturbed young girl…who is gradually transformed into a female Robin Hood. It’s about things like conflicting realities, belief systems and extraterrestrials but essentially I think it’s mostly about ‘The Dead Zone,’ which is the “proposed” period we’re in now. The strange time where everything has reached a brick wall and is recycling itself, turning in circles, desperately cannibalizing itself for even a modicum of inspiration. It’s an end of the world within the end of the world, a “schism” of reality that occurred after 1982, which on Dec 21, 1982 at 11:11am is when the world really came to end. Since then we’ve been living on the residual fumes of the cosmos.”
FOXFUR deals with aliens from the Pleiades. (Why he doesn’t call the star cluster M45 I don’t know. It would be easier to say and spell.) Packard alleges that it derives from another film of his called APPLE that he directed in 1995. That one was about a girl named Apple who grew up to be a witch named Orb.
New Age philosophy is lost on me.
