Ruby Rose (Wendy the Android in Episode 1.7) stars as a former Marine officer suffering from PTSD in the action/thriler THE DOORMAN. Her character (so far not named) returns home to heal and takes a job as a doorman at a historic New York City apartment building but discovers that mercenaries are intent on recovering art hiding in the building’s walls. Directed by the legendary Ryuhei Kitamura (THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN), and filmed in Bucharest, THE DOORMAN is expected to be released later this year.
Rose also stars as Viola in “Twelfth Night”, episode 2.4 of ACTING FOR A CAUSE, a series of staged readings of famous plays performed over video conference for charity, and directed by Brando Crawford. BATWOMAN’s Nicole Kang appears as Maria. The video is available on YouTube.
Franka Potente (Chief Inspector Shaddick in “Welcome To Your New Home”) will play Blanco’s girlfriend Leslee in BLANCO , a drama pilot ordered by Cinemax which stars Shiloh Fernandez as an uptown gangster named Ruben (who is nicknamed Blanco because he is a light-skinned Dominican) in the title role. Blanco uses his status as a confidential informant to gain an advantage on local law enforcement and help build his illegal empire. Audrey Esparza (Tasha Zapata on BLINDSPOT) is also in the cast. The pilot will be directed by Oscar-nominated Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and if picked up to series BLANCO will be on Cinemax sometime in 2021.
Clyde Witham (Old Inmate in “Welcome to Your New Home”) is Arthur Oswald in BIG GOLD BRICK, the tale of a promising young writer (Samuel, played by Emory Cohen) and his experiences with an enigmatic, middle-aged father of two (Andy Garcia) who hires him to write his biography. But when Arthur finds out just why he was hired, his writing efforts are stymied by chaotic events that quickly turn the story into a dark comedy. No release date has been announced.
