Anna Hopkins (Brinkley White in “Clear Eyes, Fae Hearts“) will be true-crime author Carly Travers in the made-for-TV movie ISLAND OF SHADOWS. Carly and her husband Kevin (Christopher Jacot) vacation at a historical mansion on Crawford Island. Kevin thinks it will help them reconnect, but Carly wants to research a puzzling, unsolved murder that happened on the island. Alex Paxton Beesley (Lola in “The Kenzi Scale“) is also in the cast. Paxton-Beesley’s stunt double is Amy Szoke, who doubles for Lauren Lee Smith on FRANKIE DRAKE MYSTERIES. Jen Georgopoulos is Hopkins’ stunt double in the film. (She also doubled for Trenna Keating on DEFIANCE.) Directed by Leo Scherman, ISLAND OF SHADOWS was filmed in and near Owen Sound, Ontario. No release date has been announced.
Shawn Doyle (Isaac Taft in “Hail, Hale“) will be Doug in MIRAGE, a six-episode spy thriller that stars Marie-Josee Croz as Claire, an expatriate starting a new life in Abu Dhabi with her second husband Lukas and son Jack. (She believed that her first husband Gabriel was killed in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.) But Claire becomes caught up in the world of espionage after she discovers that Gabriel is still alive. Clive Standen, who plays Gabriel, told the Hollywood Reporter: “This series is more of a love story than an action show. Claire isn’t a spy. She has no idea what her first husband did, and Gabriel is having to come clean about a major lie he hid. So he’s in love and feeling guilty and that’s emotionally refreshing when you’re just breaking down doors.” The Canada/France co-production was filmed in Morocco and Abu Dhabi, and will premiere later this year on France Télévisions and on Germany’s ZDF.
Lyndie Greenwood (Lana in “Table for Fae“) will be Leo’s widow Thisbe in THE WORLD WITHOUT YOU, a film based on the 2013 novel by Joshua Henkin. The Frankel family gather in 2005 on the fourth of July at their summer home in the Berkshires to memorialize Leo, the youngest of four siblings, who was killed on that day one year previously while on assignment as a journalist in Iraq. Leo’s three sisters are Lilly (Radha Mitchell), a lawyer with a temper, Clarissa (Perrey Reaves), who plays the cello, and Noelle (Annika Marks), who has moved to Jerusalem and was the last one to see Leo alive. Dark secrets emerge at the gathering, and threaten to tear the family apart. THE WORLD WITHOUT YOU had its premiere at the 2019 Dances With Films festival in Los Angeles. A trailer is available on YouTube.
Tattiawana Jones (Daphne in “Mirror, Mirror“) is “Coach” in Sean Durkin’s psychological thriller THE NEST. After years spent living in the States, ex-commodities broker Rory (Jude Law) announces that he plans to uproot his wife Allison (Carrie Coon) and their two kids and move back to England (where he was born) to rejoin his old firm, and, in an effort to keep up appearances, moves the family into an old country manor in Surrey that they can’t really afford.
Reviewing the film for The Playlist, Jessica Kiang wrote: “Set in the ’80s…the film’s insights are not confined solely to that period. Rather, the cracks that eventually widen into fissures and then chasms in this family’s fragile veneer, all spring from far more timeless fatal flaws like greed, entitlement, and mistrust, which are sicknesses any of us can carry inside us without even noticing.” THE NEST premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, and will be released in Norway on 8 May.
Marcie T House (Laveau in “End of a Line”) is Chief Debra Dunn in DEAD OVER DIAMONDS the second installment of Hallmark’s PICTURE PERFECT MYSTERIES series. Their investigation soon broadens to include a murder. A trailer is available on YouTube.
