VAN HELSING – Season 4 Episode 11 – SPOILERS
Violet (Keeya King) and Ivory (Jennifer Cheon Garcia Warn) go to the place they believe Hansen is being held to free him from captivity, and stumble into an opportunity. Michaela is in the process of undergoing what Ivory calls a Setite ritual to remove her heart and store it in a safe place to prevent herself from being staked.
**Setites are followers of the Egyptian god Set (aka Suetekh), and outside of fiction (e.g. The Adrian Trilogy by Lyn Gibson and several tabletop and video games) there is no known connection between Set and vampires.
Once Michaela’s heart is removed, Violet and Ivory attack, and defeat Michaela and her minions in short order. (A stake through the heart apparently disables vampires but does not kill them. Violet stakes Michaela’s boxed heart and it causes her to stop fighting, making it easy for Ivory to behead her.)
The rest of the gang sneak into Fort Collins which is where Bathory (Jesse Stanley) has taken Hansen, who, because of Bathory’s continued torture, has returned to his original form, and now looks like Willem (Dakota Daulby). The President has sent a military unit headed by Colonel Nicholson to Fort Collins to find Violet (though she doesn’t yet know her name) and the Colonel decides eventually to trust Axel (Jonathan Scarfe) in hopes of finding out what’s really going on.
At this point we are reminded that Axel was assigned by the military on the day of the Rising to protect Vanessa’s apparently dead body. This was after Doc (Rukiya Bernard) told her sister Grace (Bethany Brown), an army lieutenant, about the strangeness exhibited by the corpse (see Episode 1.2).
Someone in government must have had enough knowledge before the Rising to watch out for someone like Vanessa, and make an effort to protect (and possibly control) her. It should also be remembered that Hansen sent Doc away to an unknown location (in Episode 4.2), and while at the time it was presumed he was up to no good, he might have sent her somewhere protected from the likes of Bathory, so she could continue her research unimpeded. She might be in the same vampire-free location as the President. One wonders, if Doc finds a cure, would it cure all vampires, including Bathory and the Dark One?
Bathory (disguised as Avery (Anna Galvin), who is said to have been killed, though she was alive in Episode 4.5 when last we saw her, seems very interested when Colonel Nicholson mentions the President.
OTHER STUFF: Nicholson communicates with headquarters via sat phone, so those things are working now. It is never mentioned what branch of the American military Nicholson is with. Julius (Aleks Paunovic) pokes through some files and finds a reference to something called the “sunshine unit”, but we get no further information on that. Violet now has the three missing pages, but tells Jack she has no idea how to use them.
Hilary Jardine (Susan in “Little Thing“) is store manager Sally Ann in A GODWINK CHRISTMAS: MEANT FOR LOVE. (A godwink is a coincidence so unlikely that it makes one suspect divine intervention.) Alice (Cindy Busby) and Jack (Benjamin Hollingsworth), two strangers from very different family backgrounds, are brought together by multiple and improbable twists of fate for a weekend wedding celebration. Alice’s mother (Kathie Lee Gifford) encourages her daughter, who has just emerged from a failed long distance romance, to stop shying away from new relationships. The “godwinks” continue, bringing Alice and Jack closer and making them work to fit each other into their complicated professional lives. A GODWINK CHRISTMAS: MEANT FOR LOVE will next air on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on 12 December at 11am.
Trezzo Mahoro (Mohamed in “Rusty Cage“) will reprise his role of Lucas in TO ALL THE BOYS: P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU. In the sequel, Lara Jean (Lana Condor) and Peter (Noah Centeneo) are still together, but Peter begins to spend time with his ex-girlfriend Genevieve (Emilija Baranac), and sometimes doesn’t tell Lara about it. At the same time, Lara begins to get closer to one of her old acquaintances, John Ambrose. She also joins a scrapbooking class at the local retirement home where she meets and strikes up a friendship with Stormy (Holland Taylor), who gives her relationship advice. Jill Morrison (Shelley in “Christ Pose“) is also in the cast. P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU will be released on Netflix on 12 February.
