Brianna Leigh Barnes, a model from Ontario who has done three films, none of which are very good, is the most interesting new cast member I could find this week. I will talk about Andrea Roth and Sean Patrick Thomas some more in another post.
Barnes has been a model for 9 years, an actor for only four years, and has done three feature films. Let’s start with her first feature, EVIL WEED, which is arguably the worst of the three.
EVIL WEED aspires to being a modern day REEFER MADNESS, not so much in form as in intent. So if you buy into the whole war on drugs thing it may hold some appeal for you. The film is poorly made, and to a large extent poorly acted, with the notable exception of Ms. Barnes who turns in a pretty good performance despite having to battle a terrible script. This film can be streamed on Netflix. A webseries about the making of EVIL WEED will be out shortly.
Then she did IRON SOLDIER. This movie is about terrorists (the other thing there is a war against) who attempt to steal an experimental military robot.
First, let me say that this robot is the silliest looking mechanical man ever put on film. He looks like his body was styled by General Motors in 1958. Also, the notion that such a device would be built without a remotely controlled self-destruct mechanism is just nonsense. If it were that important, they would be able to blow it up, rather than let it fall into enemy hands. This one is not yet on DVD.
And third there is THE DAY, a post-apocalyptic war movie with humans fighting something or other that was created in the apocalypse. Also not yet on DVD.
So it is safe to say the being the concierge at RINGER’s fictional Hotel Pivoine in Paris is her best role so far.
Well, she did do a short film called TO WHICH I WAS NOW in which “A fighting couple get drugged and killed by their friends in order to make them happy.” The title makes about as much sense as the concept, but it is certainly an unique idea.
