Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly) will be the as-yet-unnamed seven-months-pregnant girlfriend of Dara’s ex-husband in LIKE A HOUSE ON FIRE. Sarah Sutherland stars as Dara, who returns home after a two year separation from her husband (played by Jared Abrahamson) in hopes of reconnecting with her family. But when she gets there, she finds that her husband is in a new relationship and her daughter doesn’t recognize her. Amanda Brugel (Rita in THE HANDMAID’S TALE) is also in the cast. Written and directed by Jesse Noah Klein, LIKE A HOUSE ON FIRE is currently filming in North Bay, Ontario, and should be released early next year.
Provost-Chalkley will also be Sue in SEASON OF LOVE, a light-hearted, queer women’s, romantic comedy with six main characters: Iris (Emily Goss), Mardou (Laur Allen), Lou (Jessica Clark), Kenna (Sandra Mae Frank), Janey (Janelle Marie), and Sue. The six of them deal with their love lives in loosely connected stories set between Christmas and New Years. Janey comes home from college for her cousin Iris’ wedding, and wouldn’t mind reconnecting with her long-time girlfriend Sue. But Sue, a musician who makes her living busking, is preoccupied with trying to find a way to pay her mother’s medical bills. Sue sings beautifully, but suffers from crippling anxiety that prevents her from singing in front of a large audience, so when a private video is leaked and becomes a viral sensation, she finds it difficult to cope. SEASON OF LOVE will be released in the US on 30 November.
Chantel Riley (Kate) is Angela Cook in all ten episodes of the SUITS spinoff PEARSON, which stars Gina Torres as recently disbarred lawyer Jessica Pearson. The show will follow Jessica as she adjusts to her new job as Chicago Mayor Bobby Golec’s “fixer”, and is forced to reconcile her compulsion to win with her desire to do the right thing. Angela, who is Jessica’s cousin, has two young sons (one of whom will be played by Jonny Berryman). PEARSON will premiere on the USA Network on 17 July at 10pm, immediately following the premiere of the final season of SUITS. A trailer is available on YouTube.
Riley is also Trudy Clarke on FRANKIE DRAKE MYSTERIES, the third season of which has begun production. In the coming season, Frankie will deal with a family secret, and stories will involve (among other things) illegal boxing, political fundraisers, the supernatural, and the British aristocracy. (Honeysuckle Weeks will guest star as Agatha Christie. In 2005, Weeks was Rhoda Dawes in “Cards on the Table“, Episode 10.2 of AGATHA CHRISTIE’S POIROT.) Season One of FRANKIE DRAKE MYSTERIES is now airing on Ovation TV in the US. In Canada, all episodes can be streamed on CBC Gem.
Kate Drummond (Agent Lucado) is Mrs. Cooper in SAVING ALEX, a film based on the true story of fifteen-year-old Alex Cooper (Addison Holley), who was held against her will for eight months in a gay conversion therapy home, and faced horrific punishments and beatings intended to cure her homosexuality. After realizing she would have to submit to survive, Alex was allowed to go to school, where she made friends with the president of the gay-straight alliance, and he put Alex in touch with an attorney who helped orchestrate her escape. Based on the 2016 book by Alex Cooper and Joanna Brooks, SAVING ALEX has completed filming in Santa Monica California, and should air on Lifetime later this year.
