Aleks Paunovic (Julius) is Terry and John Cassini (Maddox in “Birth Ritual“) is Ray in VOLITION, the story of a clairvoyant man (James Odin, played by Adrian Glynn McMorran) whose parents were killed in a car accident when he was seven. He predicted the accident and tried to prevent it, but no one believed him. Twenty years later, he survives by using his talents for petty crimes. (Ray hires him to deliver stolen diamonds to a buyer because he knows James can see problems before they come up.) Then James has a vision of his own imminent murder. Directed by Tony Dean Smith, VOLITION debuted in March at the 2019 Phillip K. Dick Film Festival, where it won Best Feature. A teaser is available on Vimeo. VOLITION will next screen at the Ostia International Film Festival on 20 June at 9:30pm at the Cineland di Ostia in Rome.
Dakota Daulby will play a character named Willem in four VAN HELSING episodes. We haven’t been told anything about Willem, but here’s a quote from Hans Corneel de Roos (writing in the Dutch literary magazine De Parelduiker in September 2012) that might connect the character’s name to Van Helsing:
“In his autobiography De Laatste Huzaar, published shortly after his death, the Dutch filmmaker Tonny van Renterghem (1920-2009) wrote: ‘I have known my grandfather [Dutch psychiatrist and hypnotherapist Albert Willem van Renterghem] very well and when I visited him as a child, I spent hours reading in his library. Grandma told me that the Irish author Bram Stoker used him as a model for the character of dr. Von (sic!) Helsing in his book Dracula. According to grandmother, they knew each other.’”
Jonathan Scarfe (Axel Miller) will be Evgeny in WHERE WE DISAPPEAR, a film inspired by American playwright and screenwriter Arthur M. Jolly’s play “A Gulag Mouse“. Anastasia (Georgina Haig), is a woman spending her first night in a Soviet prison camp. (She got a twelve-year sentence for committing a crime to protect her son.) Anastasia must form alliances in her new surroundings in order to survive, and perhaps find a way to escape. Among others in the cast are Katherine Isabelle (Gwen in 88) and Carmen Argenziano (Sam’s father on Stargate SG-1). WHERE WE DISAPPEAR will have its world premiere at Dances With Films on Friday, 21 June at 7pm at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
