Tricia Helfer (Dracula in Season Four) will star in a CREEPSHOW episode titled “Lydia Layne’s Better Half”, based on a story by showrunner Greg Nicotero and John Harrison, and directed by Roxanne Benjamin. Lydia is a powerful woman who denies a promotion to her protégée and lover but fails to anticipate the fallout. The six episode series (each episode has two stories) is a TV revival of the 1982 horror anthology film of the same name. (Adrienne Barbeau who appeared in the original film, will also appear in the TV series, starring in an adaptation of Steven King’s short story “Grey Matter“.) CREEPSHOW completed production in Atlanta in April and will air on SHUDDER later this year.
Helfer and Marc Bernardin do a podcast called BATTLESTAR GALACTICAST, an episode by episode rewatch of Battlestar Galactica in its entirety. This week, Sam Witwer shows up to help discuss the Season Two episode “Fragged“, in which he made his final appearance as Crashdown. The podcast can be streamed on Spotify.
Jennifer Spence (The B’ah in “Pretty Noose“) will be Professor Kathy Torrance in the crime thriller TRACES, a six-episode series set in the world of the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy. When 23-year-old Emma Hedges (Molly Windsor) returns to Scotland and is hired as a lab assistant at SIFA, she takes an online forensics course, but soon finds that a fictitious case study presented in the course bears considerable resemblance to events in her own past. Emma investigates, with the help of Torrance and Professor Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser). Written by Amelia Bullmore (Eliza Priestly on GENTLEMAN JACK) and based on an idea from novelist Val McDermid, TRACES will air on Alibi in the UK later this year. An Instagram post from Spence indicated that her character will have a dog, very possibly a border collie.
Richard Harmon (Max in Season Four) will be Rodger Emmerlich in the sci-fi horror film THE RETURN. Rodger is a gifted physics student who inherits the family home after the death of his father. He returns with his girlfriend Beth (Sarah Thompson) and encounters childhood horrors he thought long dead. (He finds out that as a child he had an imaginary friend and was terrified of it.) Director B.J. Verot told Chris Morse of Dead Entertainment that the film starts out as a “classic haunted house movie”, but gradually “the science fiction edge begins to bleed through”. Stuntwoman Kristen Sawatzky plays a character called “The Entity”. THE RETURN is scheduled for festival release in mid-2019. YouTube has a trailer.
In an interview with Cavelle Layes of Kamloops Matters, Harmon described his VAN HELSING character as very different from John Murphy in THE 100, and called Max one of the most fun characters he has played in his career so far. Max, he said, “is a lot to handle for everyone, including himself.”
