Kalinka Petrie (Brynn in “Necropolis Now“) will be Jeanne in the horror/comedy LA MALÉDICTION DE JONATHAN PLOURDE, the story of a 23 year-old designer who falls in love four times only to have each of his lovers die suddenly. Convinced that he is cursed, Jonathan (Félix-Antoine Duval) is determined to give up on romance, until a new employee named Jeanne enters his life. With the help of a co-worker who is well-schooled in unexplained phenomena, Jonathan tries to figure out how to have Jeanne in his life without putting her in danger. Petrie told Karine Paradis of Envedette: “The most interesting thing about Jeanne’s character is that she’s the only one who does not know about Jonathan’s supernatural angle…so it was really interesting to play that, because she tries to find rational explanations, real explanations, to explain Jonathan’s bizarre behavior.” LA MALÉDICTION DE JONATHAN PLOURDE premiered on the Canadian French language network Super Écran on 12 November. Episode 4, in which Jonathan has a difficult and emotional discussion with his mother and takes part in a dangerous rebirth session, will air on 3 December at 9pm. A trailer is available on Vimeo.
Anna Hopkins (Fairuza in “The Kids Are Alright“) is Maya in RED ROVER, a romantic comedy about a lonely geologist (Kristian Bruun), who spends his time searching for the meaning of life and (with the aid of a metal detector) for treasures buried on the beach. He has little success finding either of those things. Then he meets a quirky musician named Phoebe (Cara Gee) who is handing out flyers for a one-way trip to Mars. The two become friends and Damon soon decides to attempt to qualify for the trip. A trailer is available on Vimeo. RED ROVER will have its world premiere at the 2018 Whistler Film Festival Friday 30 November at 3:30pm at the Maury Young Arts Centre. There will be a second screening Sunday 2 December at 9pm at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Center.
Mayko Nguyen (Delle Seyah Kendry) will be Chief of Forensics Sarah Truong in REX, the first English language adaptation of “Inspector Rex, a Cop’s Best Friend”, which starred Fritz Muliar and ran for eighteen seasons in 125 countries. Set in St. John’s, Newfoundland, REX will focus on the partnership between Police Detective Charlie Hudson (John Reardon) and his K9 partner Rex (played by Diesel, a Canadian Kennel Club grand champion). Rex and Charlie combine their individual skills to solve the most puzzling crimes. The eight-episode, hour-long series is currently in production, and should air on CITY-TV in Canada next year.
