Cara Gee (Camina Drummer) will have an as yet unspecified role in CALL OF THE WILD, a film based on Jack London’s story about Buck, a powerful dog (half St. Bernard) who is stolen from a California estate and sold as a sled dog in the Arctic. Harrison Ford will be John Thornton, the guy who saves Buck from death at the hands of a cruel owner (Dan Stevens), and Karen Gillan will be the spoiled and pampered Mercedes, sister of the aforementioned cruel owner. Director Chris Saunders says that the film will “incorporate major CG elements”. CALL OF THE WILD has begun filming in Santa Clarita, California. It will be released in the US on Christmas Day, 2019, and in Russia as Зов предков (Call of the Ancestors) on 2 January 2020.
Gee is also Coyote in WYNTER, a made-for-TV drama about an evil race of beings called Tricksters who possess supernatural powers and want to destroy mankind. The only one who can stop them is Wynter (Kaniehtiio Horn), a beautiful Street Nurse. Directed by Tyson Caron, WYNTER is currently airing on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network in Canada.
Dominique Tipper (Naomi Nagata) will be Bastian in Argyris Papadimitropoulos‘ current project MONDAY. The film will star Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough as Mickey and Chloe, two self-destructive Americans living in Greece who enter into a stormy relationship. Rachel Leischman writing for Fansided said: “The way that Papadimitropoulos describes the movie makes it very clear that this couple is going to struggle as any couple does. As Argyris states, not many people love intensely anymore and from what has been released about the movie (based on Sebastian’s description at a convention this month), it is a rom-com gone wrong…MONDAY is exciting because Sebastian Stan hasn’t previously done a romantic comedy.” No release date has yet been announced.
Alli Chung (Samantha Rosenberg in “Windmills“) will be Detective Taylor Kim in CORONER, which stars Serinda Swan as Toronto Coroner Jenny Cooper, a former ER doctor and recently widowed mother. (Her 17 year old son is played by Ehren Kassam.) Jenny is an advocate for the dead (even when it’s inconvenient for the living), a defender of the powerless, and is driven by an intense desire for the truth. She works closely with an eccentric colleague named Alison (Tamara Podemski), an idealistic pathologist (Lovell Adams-Gray), and Police Detective Donovan McAvoy (Roger Cross). The show’s storylines will be based on real life cases. Showrunner Morwyn Brebner said in a press release: “What makes CORONER so distinct is that it tells the story of a woman who suddenly goes from working with the living to working with the dead – to reveal surprising truths.” CORONER was inspired by the series of books by M. R. Hall, and will premiere on CBC on Monday, 7 January at 9pm.
