Rukiya Bernard (Doc) will be Danielle in FREAKY FRIDAY, the third remake of the 1976 film which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster. This one is about Katherine (Heidi Blickenstaff) and Ellie (Cozi Zuehlsdorff), a mother and daughter who find themselves each in the other’s body after both express a wish to live the other’s life. (The magical device that does the switching is a pair of necklaces in the original film, fortune cookies in the 2003 adaptation, and an hourglass in this one.) This lastest incarnation of FREAKY FRIDAY is a musical (based on last year’s stage musical with music by Tom Kitt and lyrics by Brian Yorkey), and will premiere on the Disney Channel on 10 August. A trailer is available on YouTube.
Bernard is also Megan, Cara’s best friend, in ONE WINTER WEEKEND. Cara (Taylor Cole), who writes for a women’s magazine, is challenged by her editor to write about her decision to refrain from dating for a while after she is dumped on New Years Eve. (She calls it a “dating detox”.) Carla, looking for inspiration, books an impromptu ski weekend with Megan, but the two discover they’ve inadvertently double booked their chalet with two eligible men, Sean (Dweshane Williams) and Ben (Jack Turner). Then the four of them get snowed in. ONE WINTER WEEKEND will next air on The Hallmark Channel on Friday, 31 August at 4pm.
Trezzo Mahoro (Mohamad) will be Lucas James in TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE, a movie based on the 2014 romance novel by Jenny Han, about sixteen-year-old Lara Jean (Lana Condor), her older sister Margot (Janel Parrish), and her younger sister Kitty (Anna Cathcart). In lieu of a diary, Lara Jean has written love letters to all the boys she has ever had a crush on. She keeps the unmailed missives in a hatbox that was given to her by her late mother. The hatbox mysteriously disappears, and Lara Jean discovers to her horror that the letters have been mailed. A trailer is available on YouTube. Directed by Susan Johnson, and filmed last summer in Vancouver, TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE will be on Netflix (US) on 17 August.
Vincent Gale (Flesh) is Professor Thomas Webster in PAST MALICE: AN EMMA FIELDING MYSTERY, the second film based on the series of novels by Dana Cameron. Archaeologist Emma Fielding (Courtney Thorne-Smith) travels to Stone Harbor, Massachusetts after she is hired by the Stone Harbor Historical Board to consult on the acquisition of Chandler House, an 18th century castle-like estate that local legend says is cursed. Emma quickly finds herself involved in a murder case after discovering the body of another archaeologist in a secret chamber in the building. Fielding is assisted in her investigation by FBI Special Agent Jim Connor (James Tupper). PAST MALICE will next air on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries on 17 August at 7/6c.
