SMOKE FAIRIES – COCKROACHES AND FINGERPAINT
The Smoke Fairies are completing their second trip to the US this year. I failed to see them on both occasions, but that is because I live in the hinterland and while their tours skirted my area of the country, they did not quite make it here.
Their new video, HOTEL ROOM, is something of a departure for the duo. If this video was inspired by their recent hotel experiences, they need to let me know where they have been staying, so that others like myself might avoid those places. The video is fun, though, and a departure from their usual, more serious stuff.
Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies on the American experience (from Freddie Campion’s article at Vogue.com):
BLAMIRE: There is something amazing about the melancholy of folk and blues that we’re kind of inspired by. I think it’s an escapist thing.
DAVIES: The English countryside is mysterious because of the weight of all the history, but in America the wilderness is more of a true wilderness.
BLAMIRE: It’s true. There is a feeling of being lost here you can’t really get at home.
Smoke Fairies will be back in the UK on Monday 31 October at THE BARFLY in London.
