Ellen Fox will begin hosting the morning show EYE OPENER on CW stations in Dallas, Houston, Miami, Philly and Portland (Oregon) on Monday 31 October. I am in none of those places, but Fox assures us via Twitter that the show will be available online somewhere. One of her first stories will be on the tryouts for the Dallas Derby Devils.
Fox tweeted this recently:
Hey y’all! We air live next Monday! Send us mail and mazel tovs. Address: Eye Opener, Tribune Tower, 435 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611
Besides being a TV host and commentator, Fox has done a few films. The first was BLACK DAYS in 2005, and sounds interesting, but does not seem to be available anywhere. The horror flick STUMP THE BAND (2006) and the 2007 comedy CRIME FICTION are available from NETFLIX (dvd, not streaming). I haven’t seen these yet, but I will.
I miss the Rotten Tomatoes show with Ellen Fox and Brett Erlich. It was easily the best film review show on television. I just watched "Ebert Presents at the Movies" on PBS for the first time and the hosts of that show, Christy Lemire and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, are incredibly bland. I’m sure Mr. Ebert (who cannot himself speak) advanced some interesting opinions in the show. But these two hosts occupy most of the program with their own opinions and it is as though they have been instructed to avoid inflection of any kind.
Though I frequently disagreed with them, Fox and Erlich were never dull.
