Shamier Anderson (Dolls) is Malcolm in the romantic comedy LOVE JACKED, a film about Maya (Amber Stevens West), a young woman with artistic ambitions. To assert her independence from her father (who wants her to run the family store), Maya embarks on a journey to Africa for inspiration, and returns from her trip with a fiancé who is not quite what he seems to be. The film had its premiere at the 2017 Cape Town Film Festival, and it will open the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles on 8 February. A trailer is available on YouTube.
Anderson will also be David Mack in LAbyrinth, a biographical crime thriller that follows an investigation into the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. Johnny Depp plays a disgraced LAPD detective who is unable to crack the case. and Forest Whitaker is a journalist who teams with him and sets them on a course directly against the L.A.P.D. Anderson’s character probably is David Anthony Mack, a former Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Division Community Resources officer who was one of those named in a 2007 wrongful death lawsuit filed against the City of Los Angeles by the estate of Notorious B.I.G. LAbyrinth will be released in the US on 7 May.
Varun Saranga (Jeremy Chetri) will be Raj Patel in APPINESS, a buddy comedy about trying to find one’s place in life (and failing miserably). When techie Raj reconnects with his recently laid off high school buddy Eric, the two decide to get rich building the next great app. With the aid of a team led by Jeanine (Amber Goldfarb), the project begins in a promising way, but soon turns into a money pit, leading them to question what they should really be doing with their lives. APPINESS is the first feature film for writer/directer Eil Batalion (co-creator of the CSA-nominated web series YidLife Crisis), and is expected to be released in Canada later this year.
Jessica Sipos (Constance Clootie in “No Future in the Past“) stars as Elle Spencer in the TV movie STEPDAUGHTER’S REVENGE. Elle blames her stepfather for her mother’s suicide, and she is plans to exact retribution. Her friend Anna (Sierra Wooldridge), who has no family and no money, is about to be released from jail where she served time for a DUI. Anna will become Elle’s unsuspecting instrument of revenge. Written by Andrea Canning and Elizabeth Stuart, STEPDAUGHTER’S REVENGE completed filming in November, and will premiere on 27 April.
Madison Nyenhuis (pep rally attendee in “Gonna Getcha Good“) will be Maddox Sheppard in the horror feature MOTEL 13, in which a man must escape an isolated motel after being lured there and held captive by the demented owner and her two adult daughters, who make a practice of kidnapping men in an ongoing search for a husband and father to complete their family. A teaser is available on YouTube. (MOTEL 13 was the audience choice for best trailer or teaser at the South Film and Arts Academy Festival festival in Rancagua, Chile.) The film is scheduled to begin production in the summer and is aiming at a 31 October release in Canada.
