Cara Gee (Drummer) is Hazel James in BIRDLAND, the story of ex-cop Sheila Hood (Kathleen Munroe), who hides cameras in her home to observe her ornithologist husband’s affair with Hazel’s older sister Merle (Melanie Scrofano). When Merle falls to her death from a bridge and another of her lovers, Ray Starling (Joris Jarsky), is found dead in his own hotel, Hood is pulled into a dark world of corruption, sex and death and her surveillance footage forms the backbone of a police investigation that threatens to incriminate her and destroy her marriage. Directed by Peter Lynch (who Norm Wilner of Toronto’s NOW Magazine once said was “a director fascinated by obsessive outsiders”), BIRDLAND will be released on VOD in both Canada and the US on 26 January (Amazon, Google, Xbox, and iTunes). It will begin showing at the Carlton Cinema in Toronto on 26 January as well.

Frankie Adams (Bobbie Draper) will portray Arabian privateer Yasmina Rashid in MORTAL ENGINES, a steampunk fantasy film based on the 2001 novel by Philip Reeve. Thousands of years after the cataclysmic destruction of civilization in a brief and terrible war, humans have restored a semblance of civilization. Gigantic moving cities roam the planet, ruthlessly preying upon smaller towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) and the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future. (The screenplay is by Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh who also wrote the screenplay for LORD OF THE RINGS). A trailer is available on YouTube. MORTAL ENGINES will be released in the US on 14 December 2018.
Florence Faivre (Julie Mao) is the recurring character Sinara on AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D, which airs Fridays at 9/8c on ABC in the US, and Fridays at 8pm on CTV in Canada. Sinara is described as “a cold-hearted killer who obeys her master, Kasius”. Faivre will next appear in Episode 5.7 “Together or Not At All“, scheduled to air on 12 January, in which the team encounters an undefeated Kree warrior bent on killing them all.
Sara Mitich (Gia) stars as Rachel in Andrew Cymek‘s made-for-TV psychological thriller A DEADLY VIEW. After a traumatizing robbery, a pregnant Rachel and her husband Peter (Kristian Bruun) move away from the city to start their family. Rachel finds it difficult to get to know her new neighbours, with the exception of Sandy (Bridgitte Kingsley), with whom she hits it off instantly, and when Rachel is put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy, Sandy is more than willing to help. But Rachel begins to view Sandy’s behaviour with suspicion, and, after she sees her new friend with a baby no one even knew she had, Rachel begins to fear that her unborn child may be what Sandy truly desires. A trailer is available on C21 Media.
Mitich is also Lt. Commander Airiam (a bridge officer described variously as an augmented alien, an augmented human, or a synthetic human hybrid) on STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The next episode of DISCOVERY (Episode 9) will be available on CBS All Access on 7 January.
