Kiana Madeira (Poppy in “Whiskey Lullaby“) will be Clara in LEVEL 16, a dystopian science fiction thriller about sixteen-year-old Vivien (Katie Douglas), who finds herself trapped in a prison-like boarding school called The Vestalis Academy, run by Dr. Miro, played by Peter Outerbridge (Captain Martins on THE EXPANSE). Vivien keeps to herself until she is reunited with Sophia (Celena Martin), a former friend who once betrayed her. Together, the girls begin to uncover the horrifying truth behind their imprisonment (Sophia has discovered that they are being sedated nightly without their knowledge) and the two are soon running for their lives. LEVEL 16 is written and directed by award winning filmmaker Danishka Esterhazy. Production began in Toronto in October, and the film should be ready for release in March, 2018.
Sarah Troyer (Kiersten in “Purgatory“) plays the young Atticus Gage in SCORCHED EARTH, a post-apocalyptic drama set generations after Earth suffered an environmental collapse that left behind polluted air, toxic water, and billions of dead people. With some difficulty, humans have re-established a rudimentary society, and Atticus (Gina Carano), who works as a bounty hunter, has a chance at the bounty of a lifetime. She infiltrates a gang of outlaws in order to bring in their leader, and everything is going to plan until she is distracted by a slave girl who reminds her of her dead sister. Gage’s mentor and best friend is Doc (played by John Hannah, who is also The Mage on BBC America’s DIRK GENTLY). Producer Kevin Leeson, who co-wrote the screenplay, told Scott Brown of the Vancouver Sun that the toughest part of making SCORCHED EARTH was scouting “apocalyptic” locations within Metro Vancouver. “We’re shooting in a lot of remote areas,” he said, “old industrial facilities that are now abandoned, rock quarries, and a little bit working on some pre-built sets that are still existing but in an aged condition.” There is no word yet on a release date.
Sasha Barry (Bethany, the only human character to die twice on WYNONNA EARP) is Tina in the first two episodes of the TV series DAMNATION (the most interesting of the large crop of new TV westerns that may have been spawned by the success of WYNONNA EARP). DAMNATION airs Tuesdays at 10pm on the USA Network. Previous episodes can be purchased on YouTube.
Barry also appeared as Margo in two Season Ten episodes of the long-running CBC series HEARTLAND. The first of those two episodes, “Change of Course” will air in the US on the UPtv network on 9 December at 7am.
A clean-shaven Tim Rozon is Terry in the romantic comedy BEGINNER’S LUCK. Camille Stopps and Jarrett Knowles star in the Carlo Liconti directed feature, which finished shooting in Havana, Cuba in July.
A fully bearded Rozon co-stars with Kat Barrell in a Lake Placid movie currently being filmed in South Africa. It will be the fifth sequel SyFy has made to the original 1999 film about man-eating crocodiles in Maine.
SCHITT’S CREEK, in which Rozon plays the Mayor’s son Mutt, will have its Season Four premiere on PopTV in the US on Wednesday 24 January at 8pm, and on CBC in Canada on Tuesday 9 January at 9pm. The first three seasons of SCHITT’S CREEK can be streamed on Netflix (US).
