Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp) stars as Grace, Kiana Madeira (Poppy in W.E. episode 2.6) will be Amy, and Varun Saranga (Jeremy) will play Gavin in the SyFy original movie NEVERKNOCK, about an urban legend that turns out to be true. (Legend was that, in 1986, three teens were brutally murdered after knocking on the door of 59 Oakwood Lane, and the killer was never found. For forty years, kids were warned to never knock on the door of that house for fear of what might answer. Grace and her friends fail to heed those warnings.) Also in the cast are Jodelle Ferland of DARK MATTER, and Eliana Jones (who was teenage Tamsin on LOST GIRL). NEVERKNOCK will air on SyFy (US) on 15 October at 9pm.
Varun Saranga will also be Vijay Gill in CARTER, a light-hearted detective story that stars Jerry O’Connell as Harley Carter, a former actor who once played a detective on TV. Harley goes back to his small Canadian hometown after a public meltdown. However, everybody there mistakes him for the character he played. Though Harley knows he’s not a real detective, he hopes to use the erroneous perception people have of him to launch a new career, so he teams up with his old friend, former cop Sam Shaw (Sydney Tamiia Poitier). CARTER will air on Sony’s AXN Network (there is no definite date as yet), and will premiere on Bravo Canada on 20 February 2018.
Michael Eklund (Bobo Del Rey) is Detective Richards, who helps best-selling author Kelly (Rose McGowan) investigate a mysterious man she encounters in an abandoned subway station in the psychological thriller THE SOUND. Kelly is a specialist in acoustic physics and she ventures into the supposedly haunted tunnels in an attempt to study sounds that are felt rather than heard, as well as to debunk the superstitions surrounding the place. As she travels deeper into the underground darkness, her skepticism is severely tested. (The film was originally titled LOWER BAY, which is also the name of a seldom-used Toronto subway station.) Written and directed by Jenna Mattison, THE SOUND will be in select American theatres and on iTunes (US) on 29 September. A trailer is available on Vimeo.
In the crime drama TIN STAR, Jim Worth (Tim Roth), an ex-British detective, moves his family to a small Canadian town called Little Big Bear, where he comes into conflict with big oil and organized crime. Then his five year old son is murdered, and that awakens the detective’s violent, alcoholic alter-ego.
Several folks who appeared on WYNONNA EARP also appear on TIN STAR. Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught) is a nurse in episode ten; Valerie Planche (Mamma Olive in W.E. episode 1.6) plays the school principal in two episodes; Marnie Madden (worker #1 in W.E. episode 1.5) is an oil worker in episode two; and Kevin Hanchard (Moody) is Reverend Grigoire in three episodes. All ten first season episodes are currently available on Sky Atlantic in the UK, and a trailer is available on YouTube. Filmed just outside of Calgary, TIN STAR is scheduled to be released on Amazon Prime on 29 September.
