Widows, Witches, Wishes, and Wynonna
WYNONNA EARP – Season 2 Episode 10 – SPOILERS

Faux Mercedes (Dani Kind) preparing to torture Nedley for information.
The Purgatory Poachers have been county curling champions for six years in a row, in sharp contrast to Purgatory’s hockey team which wins infrequently and then only with demonic assistance. Nedley hides the third seal in his favourite mug (which has DAD written on it and was likely made by his daughter Chrissy in shop class). Jeremy named his favourite coffee mug Optimug Prime. (It is no more, having been accidentally broken by Waverly.) Doc somehow knows that Nicole Haught’s hat size is “barely a seven”, while Sheriff Nedley wears a seven and three quarters. Wynonna identifies herself to the doctor attending Nicole by flashing a badge. Pretty sure it’s the first time we’ve seen Wynonna do that.
Rosita causes Dolls, Doc, and Waverly, to come into conflict with Wynonna. Doc, who is newly mortal, shows his support for Rosita by kissing her in front of Wynonna, who is trying to intimidate the revenant into being a test subject in the development of an anti-venom that will cure Nicole (and being quite nasty about it). Rosita submits to being exposed to the venom (which cannot kill her, but is still quite painful). As soon as Waverly finds out about this, she intervenes, saying, “This is not who we are.” Dolls, who is part demon, and better able to withstand the pain, replaces Rosita as experimental subject.

Rosita (Tamara Duarte) grimaces as she inserts the needle in her arm in Jeremy’s lab.
Despite Wynonna’s instructions to the contrary, Waverly locates Doc’s ring (on orders from Dolls) and gives it to faux Beth, who immediately heads to the site of the burned church to attempt to release her husband. To find that ring, Waverly makes a deal with a witch without reading the fine print, and Nicole is cured, but as a result, Doc once again finds himself at the bottom of that well and Wynonna vanishes into thin air.
In return for enabling Waverly to find the cure, the Iron Witch, Gretta Perley, (the twin sister of Maddie the Blacksmith) gets whatever she wants. She chooses to invoke the Marzaniok from Episode 2.3 and to wish Wynonna out of existence. (She uses the word verschwinden, which means “disappear”.) No one remembers that Wynonna Earp was ever there, and just where she might have gone is a mystery. Doc is not one of the witch’s targets, but when he grabs the trophy as Gretta is making her wish, he vanishes and is deposited at the bottom of the same well that the Stone Witch once put him in. (Perhaps Doc should steer clear of witches.) We don’t know if anyone remembers that Doc exists, but when he gets out of that well, Doc will be the only one (other than the Iron Witch) with any memory of Wynonna.
Reality has been altered, but in a limited and local way. Jeremy has not vanished, though his arrival in Purgatory was indirectly caused by Wynonna. The reason for his being there may have changed, but he’s still there. That seems to imply that no one else leaves Purgatory, but people’s relationships to one another change. Waverly and Jeremy are planning a wedding, but just who is getting married is a mystery.
When Doc gave up his immortality by giving Wynonna his ring, he may also have lost his luck. He plays poker with a revenant named Stevie (Reamonn Joshee), and loses every hand. (Stevie’s winning streak drives the other two players out of the game.) Doc, who displays a previously hidden talent for deductive reasoning in this episode, figures out that Stevie might be there, not just to play poker, but also to have a look around the basement of the bar. Maybe Bobo left something important down there, and sent him to find it. (Doc still doesn’t know that Bobo is back.)

Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) asks Gretta (Rachel Ancheril) to help her find an antidote to the idows’ venom.
The commemorative plate from Episode 2.4 is made of metal. Wynonna asks what kind of metal it’s made of, and though we don’t hear Dolls answer (if he gave one), Wynonna says, just before she disappears, “I know what to do.” The plate was returned to Dolls by The Order for use as a weapon against the Widows. Such plates are often made of iron, and Nicole, after being bitten by the Widow, had too much iron in her blood.
Nicole, we find out, is married, and never got around to getting a divorce. Her wife’s name is Shae (last name unknown). She’s a doctor who likes rock climbing, and, one might assume, country music, because she explains to Waverly that she and Nicole “got married in a fever”. She does not say “hotter than a pepper sprout” but you know that song is in her head.
Clark Backo (Shae) will be Patience Turner in the pilot episode of WAYWARD SISTERS, a proposed spinoff of the long-running CW series SUPERNATURAL, which tells the story of Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and a group of troubled young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural tragedy. Turner is a high school student who discovers she’s a powerful psychic. Under Mills’ training and protection, the women develop into an effective monster-fighting force, and, unlike the original series, which centers on biological brothers, WAYWARD SISTERS is about a sisterhood of girls in a foster family. The pilot will air as an episode of SUPERNATURAL during that show’s 13th season. (Backo is listed as appearing in episodes 13.3 and 13.10.)
SHOWCASE ALBERTA: UP CLOSE & INTERACTIVE WITH WYNONNA EARP, will feature a Q&A with showrunner Emily Andras, producer & writer Jordy Randall and cast members Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Katherine Barrell (Officer Haught) and Greg Lawson (Sheriff Nedley). The event will take place 30 September at 2pm at Cineplex Eau Claire in Calgary, and will be live-streamed for those who can’t attend. Tickets are $20, and are now on sale.

Tucker Gardner (Caleb Ellsworth-Clark) and Poppy (Kiana Madeira)
Kiana Madeira (Poppy in WE Episode 2.6) will be Jess in G.L.O. (aka GIANT LITTLE ONES), a high-school drama about two students who were best friends since childhood until something unexpected happens between them at a 17th birthday party that calls that friendship into question. Written and directed by Keith Behrman, G.L.O. is currently filming in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Madeira is also Brooklyn in several episodes of the web series BARBELLE, a female written, directed, and produced web series featuring a cast of queer characters, which follows the lives of a newly famous Toronto pop duo (played by Karen Knox and Gwenlyn Cumyn) whose record label explicitly requires them to do public appearances as a couple (which they once were, but are no longer). Without $15 million to buy out their contract our heroines are stuck in the most expensive fake relationship of all time. BARBELLE will be available on Bell Fibe TV in Canada as of 28 August. It will be on YouTube in the fall.
