The Makha Root Connection
KILLJOYS – Season 3 Episode 4 – SPOILERS
A hallucinogen mixed with some green goo allows D’Avin to establish two-way communication with Aneela. Pree grows long blonde hair on the way to Ohron, home of the Ferran. The fellow Pree stabbed in the hand in Episode 2.2 is now Pree’s boyfriend, and is helping him run the bar, and Dutch disables another Killjoy trying to execute a black warrant on Johnny by using her nerve gas (!) implants (just add water and bite).

Pree (Thom Allison) arrives on Ohron.
Pree is bald when they leave for Ohron, and when they arrive there, he has shoulder-length blonde locks. Human hair normally grows at the rate of about 15 centimeters a year. It is doubtful that Lucy took a year to get to Ohron, so Pree must have used some sort of hair growth accelerator. Ohron is a moon whose location is a well-kept secret and that must mean that there are large areas of The J that have not been colonized or effectively mapped. The Ferran are a large and well-organized society of ‘conscientious deserters’ from militaries across The J who have decided to fight only in just wars. (Ohron is an anagram of honor.) The existence of such a large organization of fugitive soldiers seems to imply that war and political instability is rampant in the cluster.
We are treated to two passionate kisses between Pree and his ex, Laughlin (Mac Fyfe), who succeeded Pree as leader of the Ferran when Pree took a freighter to Westerley. Instances of two men kissing on SyFy are less frequent than a blue moon. LOST GIRL had two such kisses in seventy-seven episodes, and one of them was in a dream. Remember when Aaron Ashmore was Agent Jinx on WAREHOUSE 13? Jinx eventually did get into a relationship, but he and his boyfriend never kissed.
Delle Seyah (Mayko Nguyen) puts out a warrant on Johnny for her own murder. Aneela has it withdrawn fairly quickly, but the interesting part is that it’s a Black Warrant that’s not Level 5. All the Killjoys coming after Johnny have their weapons on stun. (Pretty sure this is the first time this setting on Killjoy weapons has been called “stun”. In the past the setting has been referred to simply as “non-lethal”.)
Delle Seyah seems to inspire interesting imagery. When D’Avin shows Banyon (Karen LeBlanc) video that proves Delle survived being shot by Johnny, Banyon responds: “You want me to challenge the warrant? Drag her highness in here by the hair.” Later there was this exchange between Zeph and D’Avin:
ZEPH: “Meditation and hallucinogens can access parts of the brain we normally can’t. Instead of forcing a connection, we’ll try a gentler way in. Now be specific when keying into Delle Seyah’s memories. Did she wear perfume? Smell is one of the most powerful memory triggers.”
D’AVIN: “You want me to get high and sniff her panties?”
D’Avin thinks about Delle Seyah after drinking a cup of steeped Makha root (which Zeph describes as a natural opiod) mixed with some green goo. This makes him astral-project himself onto Aneela’s ship. He can see everyone there, but only Aneela can see him. If D’Avin can communicate with Aneela this way, will the channel work in the other direction?
At the end of the episode, Zeph takes some green goo and some pink stuff from a petri dish labelled Khlyen and deposits it on top of the container housing The Remnant. The container pops open, revealing what appears to be a tissue sample in a tube.
