Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are pretty busy with all the Spartacus stuff, and so is Lucy Lawless. Renee O’Connor seems much more available. But the notion of a Xena film seems quite alive among the fans. There is now a Facebook page with nearly 5,000 supporters. The 2011 Xena Movie Campaign has a website.
I’m pretty sure that NBC Universal owns the rights to Xena, and NBC was the network that once cancelled Star Trek and botched the attempt to resurrect Wonder Woman this year. SyFy Channel is also part of NBC Universal and, well, they don’t make very many good movies.
What is needed is for someone to write a good script. That might make a film happen.
But there is a fan campaign going on.
