The “Charlie” in this SyFy universe is an irritating shrink, Dr. Leigh Rosen, played by David Strathain (Rennie in PASSION FISH). His angels are four or five (depending on whether one includes the ex-pitcher with Steve Blass disease who sort of joins them in episode one.) They are played by Ryan Cartwright, Malik Yoba (Detective Williams in NY UNDERCOVER), Warren Christie (Leo Herrera on THE L WORD), Laura Mennell (Janey Slater in WATCHMEN), and Azita Ghanizada (Mistress Sapphire in ep 26 of CASTLE).
And these angels are x-people. They each have some sort of mental power. The theory behind the show seems to be that alpha males (and alpha females) are alpha because they possess one of these powers (I can envision some interesting studies of gorillas).
The plot for the pilot was scarfed from the X-Files. I don’t really remember the name of the episode, but someone gets impossibly shot in a locked room through an air vent from the roof.
I had a bit of trouble sitting through the whole thing. I went away from the computer for a cup of tea, a sandwich, and any other distraction that came to mind. The problem is, these people are supposed to be compelling and charismatic. They’re Alphas! And yet they are uninteresting. With the possible exception of Ms. Minnell, not one of them held my attention for more than a minute. I suspect that were they to meet a truly charismatic villain, they would be lambdas to the slaughter.
