Pleased to report that three of the people from Pixel 51’s 2014 best-of-year lists are in short films screening at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Momona Komagata – EYE FOR AN EYE
A sudden family tragedy and an unexpected announcement from his girlfriend put Rehan Ahmed into a downward spiral that forces him to choose between reality and revenge.
Momona Komagata (BEST NEWFOUND THINGS OF 2014 Number 7) is Maya Deseburry in EYE FOR AN EYE, directed by Khijir Hayat Khan, and written by Karin Maxey. (EYE FOR AN EYE is Maxey’s first screenplay.) The film was inspired by actual events. At Cannes it will be in the Court Metrage Short Film Corner. A trailer is available on Vimeo.
Tammy Gillis – THE TIMEKEEPER
A watchmaker, who pawns time from people who waste it, is made to question his own use of time when confronted by someone who might value it more.
Tammy Gillis (Eyoälha Baker‘s photo of her was the best of 5 BEST PHOTOS OF 2014) is Georgina in THE TIMEKEEPER, directed by Scott Weber, and written by Cookie Boyle and Walter Sawadsky. THE TIMEKEEPER has been selected to be part of the Coup de coeur de Cannes. Trailer on YouTube.
Christine Horne – ENTANGLED
Forced to care for her catatonic lover Malcolm after a secret quantum experiment goes awry, Erin is determined to uncover the cause of his condition — even at the risk of her own life.
Christine Horne (BEST NEWFOUND THINGS OF 2014 Number 2) stars as Erin in a nicely understated science fiction story written and directed by ORPHAN BLACK writer and story editor Tony Elliott. Without giving too much away, there is a scene near the end of the film that makes Horne’s performance unforgettable.
