The Smoke Fairies, Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies. who opened for Laura Marling on her last US tour, are mostly understated, quiet, and inconspicuous. The effects of their music are pleasant but evanescent, and maybe that’s the effect they have been going for.
But the new single, “Strange Moon Rising”, is different. It brings Jim Morrison to mind and they should really do more of this sort of thing. Below is the video, which is also nice, but kind of distracts from the music.
This is what the Smoke Fairies had to say about the video:
“Our new single ‘Strange Moon Rising’ is out today, so it is video time again. Although I really tried to push for a warm location somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, apparently the budget only stretched to Bristol. It was fine though, because we only had to walk around in the woods in the bitter winter wind with hardly any clothes on for 50% of the day. Even though I was so cold that one of my fingers went white, I only complained for 35% of the day.”
Smoke Fairies have 8 more dates on their current UK tour. SEA OF BEES will open for them.
