LOST GIRL – Season 4 Episode 11 – SPOILERS
KENZI: All Right, we’ve got the zombies that sing the blues or sexy vampire doctor
goes back to college because he lost his way.
TAMSIN: Is that it?
KENZI: I’ve got ‘Jerry Maguire’.
Tamsin never gets to pick a film. Mentioning that Bo once referred to Dyson as “Mopey Dick”, Kenzi makes up with Bo (they had fallen out over Rainer) and sends Bo to the kitchen for snacks. Shortly thereafter, Bo is saved from an actual zombie (revenant) by Acacia, who had been thought dead.
In The Delinquents (LG 3.11), The Wanderer sent Acacia’s severed hand to Tamsin as a warning. In this episode, the Valkyrie seems less happy than one might expect to find that Acacia is alive and apparently whole. (Massimo grew her a new hand.) Both Tamsin and Acacia blame the revenant attack on Rainer, and Bo reluctantly agrees to investigate just who sent the zombie.
At one point during the investigation, Bo and Acacia (Linda Hamilton) engage in a friendly sort of wrestling that might have developed into something akin to the Alan Bates/Oliver Reed match in WOMEN IN LOVE had Tamsin not walked in. It was interesting enough for Harvey (Scott McCord) to film it. OBSERVATION: When Bo smashes Harvey’s cheap videocam with her heel, she may not have damaged the card on which the images were stored. She didn’t need to smash the camera at all. It would have been more effective to simply remove the card.
We learn that the only way to control a revenant is to drink its blood or that of another zombie that controls it. This leads to Bo drinking blood straight from the severed head of Laveau (Marci T. House). Why LOST GIRL chose the term “revenant” as opposed to the Norse “draugr” which would have been consistent with the mythology is unclear.
While Bo is out wrestling and revenant hunting, Kenzi’s mother (Linda Kash) and cousin Dimitri (Ian Matthews) come to visit at Hale’s invitation. Kenzi briefly reconciles with her mother, then throws her out of the house when her lies are revealed. (When Dimitri arrives, he asks Kenzi if the yellow ’69 Camaro outside belongs to her. When she identifies Bo as the owner, Dimitri tells his accomplice on the phone not to steal it.)
Hale proposes. Kenzi accepts, and tells Bo. They decide to celebrate and Kenzi sends Bo out for snacks. Once Bo leaves, Massimo shows up and threatens Kenzi. Hale comes to the rescue and apparently kills Massimo, but unknown to Hale, Massimo has the Twig of Zamora in his pocket, and does not die. Instead he sneaks up behind Hale
and runs a sword through his heart. XENA PARALLEL: In XWP episode #29, Callisto runs a sword through the heart of Gabrielle’s husband Perdicus shortly after their wedding.
Clearly, one should never send Bo out for food. Bad things happen.
Rainer (Kyle Schmid) is literally written back into history as this episode progresses. Books actually get fatter. This implies that when Trick rewrites history, the underlying structure of reality remains the same, while aspects of it become hidden from view. When a drawing of Rainer appears in a book, Tamsin assures Bo that Rainer is not the same Wanderer who employed herself and Acacia.
The Twig of Zamora must have completely protected Massimo from the fire (it stopped a bug from biting Hale, and prevented The Morrigan from torturing Kenzi in Season 3), so Massimo’s burns had to be psychosomatic. He believed the fire would burn him, and The Twig couldn’t protect Massimo from himself. Kenzi traded the Twig for some fake Fae powers so she could hide from the Una Mens. Had she kept the Twig, the Una Mens could not have turned it against her. It’s power is defensive.
Linda Hamilton (Acacia) will be Pilar the long-separated wife of Rafe McCawley and the mother of his children, in DEFIANCE (episodes 2.9 and 2.11). Hamilton will also be Admiral Hansen in the film BERMUDA TENTACLES, which will premiere on SyFy (US) on 12 April.
Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase on Buffy) will be Freyja in the opening episode of LOST GIRL Season 5. In Norse myth, Freyja is Odin’s ex-wife who got her own version of the afterlife (Folkvangr) and 50% of the warriors who die in battle in the separation agreement. Her chariot is pulled by two cats.
Mia Kirshner (Clio) has been cast in a recurring role in a new dramatic series (as yet untitled) from NETFLIX. Sissy Spacek and Linda Cardellini are also in the cast. The show will focus on a family torn apart by secrets after the oldest brother returns home.
Adam Kenneth Wilson (homeless man) will star as Samuel Gradius in the film THE ETERNAL, due out in 2015, about a 500 year old vampire who wants to die and is looking for someone to kill him in battle. The film is a sequel to a graphic novel called The Eternal: Final Dawn which is expected to be offered online later this year, and will be previewed at the 2014 Rue Morgue Festival of Fear in Toronto.
